The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word “Yuj” meaning to yoke, join or unite. This implies joining or integrating all aspects of the individual – body with mind and mind with soul – to achieve a happy, balanced and useful life, and spiritually, uniting the individual with the supreme.
Amanda Brown has studied and taught as an Iyengar yoga teacher for over 20 years. The Iyengar method values precision in instruction and alignment and extension in posture work. In these classes you will have the opportunity to become more aware of how your own body works and discover safe but challenging ways to improve flexibilty, stamina, balance, breathing and co ordination.
You will learn sequences, standing, sitting and lying down poses, inversions, warm ups designed to bring greater intelligence to the body and restoratives. There is an emphasis on understanding the energy of the different movements. A range of props are used to facilitate the postures.
Please feel free to contact the teacher if you have questions. See our timetable page for times of classes.
