TAKING RESPONSIBILITY
It is always argued that
figures are twisted to suit the content of the article contained within,
however, some figures simply cannot be ignored.
· Fact: 1 in 4 people are
obese.
· Fact: 1 in 3 people develop
cancer.
When you factor in that many
cancers are related to lifestyle, what are you going to do about it to avoid
becoming a statistic?
It’s all over the news that Britain has one of the highest obesity rates in Europe. It's a disgrace to be honest; thousands of people at diet clubs, doctor led diets, throwing money at the diet industry yet it’s not making a dent in the problem.
Time for someone who has fought their own
fitness battle to lead the way! Here at KSFL we have the results, we have the
new bodies, and we have the losses. I have 10 people from the first group who
have already lost 53 pounds between them in one week, with another 20
catching them up.
Kick Start Fat Loss
is not about losing weight, it’s about losing fat through clean eating and
exercise. Re-education of how to cook fresh food from scratch and shopping
locally reaps benefits all round, not just for the KSFL member and their
families, but for the forward thinking local businesses that have forged an
allegiance with us to support this campaign. We have teamed up with local butchers,
grocers, fishmongers and organic produce suppliers to make sure our members are
getting great, healthy, locally produced food which is also going to give the
local economy a much needed boost.
In the light of the horse meat scandal, how do we know what we are buying from supermarkets? Food is the fuel for our bodies yet so many of us give it so little thought. If we knew that filling our car with a certain type of petrol was going to cause it long term issues and eventually stop it running, would we choose to buy it? This wakeup call is what we needed as a nation to shake us out of our complacency so now is the time to act.
Eat
clean and move more. That’s all there is to it. We all know it but most of us
don’t put it into action. Why? Lack of time is the usual response. Yet consider
this for a moment: If you can’t make time to exercise now, you will sure as
heck have to find time to be ill later on in life. I know which I would rather
have time for.
Perhaps
lack of money? How much does it cost to go for a walk, to take a child to a
park, to run with friends or cycle with family?
Or
lack of motivation? If you know that you fall into this category then perhaps
joining KSFL is the best option for you.
KSFL
is a community; it brings people together from all walks of life with a common
purpose. It spreads beyond into the greater community of Falmouth, supporting
local businesses and having a positive ripple effect with families and friends
who can see the results in the members.
The
Core Fitness and Wellbeing Centre already extend into the Cornish community though
our Core Fitness Consultancy working with local people who suffer from long
term conditions. We have excellent experience working for and with the
NHS, Local Authorities, other government departments and the charitable sector
to deliver high impact, value for money services. Previous and current courses
are well supported through scientific research and have received national
recognition within the health and fitness industries.
Unlike other nationally renowned weight loss programmes, the
NHS is in support of the KSFL programme. Straining under the weight (no pun
intended) of services stretched to breaking point, the NHS recognises the
importance of prevention being so much better than providing a cure. The
#fatlossrevolution is here. It’s time to invest in yourself and the future of
your own family’s health and wellbeing.

There’s a revolution coming to town
There’s a diet revolution coming to Falmouth and Penryn and soon Truro.
Kick Start Fat Loss is a new generation slimming club – never been seen before.
They are teaming up with local butchers, grocers, fishmongers and organic produce suppliers to make sure their members are getting great, healthy, locally produced food which is also going to give the local economy a much needed boost.
They are leading the revolution against processed foods and diet foods and aim to get everyone cooking from scratch using locally sourced produce.
KSFL Club is launching on Tuesday 12th Feb at The Core at 7.15pm and offers members a clean eating programme based on the latest tried and tested formulas with no diet food in sight, a great cutting edge half hour workout for busy women, and a real sense of community spirit and support which is so important to its success.
We are pleased to announce the coach for Falmouth is Helen Tite who has experience in personal weight loss having lost over 7 stones. Helen is a national fitness presenter and Exercise Specialist.
Helen says: “It’s time for a change, a new generation of classes suitable for all levels that encourage a great community feel.”
“Gone are the days where you have to work out for an hour every time; times have moved on and it’s all about high intensity, interval training now and kick starting your metabolism, says [insert name and insert age in brackets.
“We use the latest cutting edge workouts that change every week, they are very 2012.”
“Plus we all know to have success losing weight you have to combine healthy eating with exercise; one without the other is a waste of time so we get all our members clean eating from the start with no diet food in sight.”
Kick Start Fat Loss is the brainchild of the UK’s leading health and fitness presenter and guru Rachel Holmes.
It started out as an online product back in 2007 and now she’s launching it nationwide with 44 branches opening up and down the country all led by the highest qualified trainers on the country.
Rachel is passionate that KSFL is a real part of the community and part of that is reinforced by her team leaders encouraging their members to shop locally.
“I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to get people using local resources with fresh produce instead of filling their trolleys with two for one offers at the supermarket,” says Rachel.
“At Kick Start Fat Loss we are starting a revolution and you can all be part of it,” she adds.

Standing on the edge of the rest of your life
I want to start by saying thank you to all those who have supported me with the launch of our fitness suite and our changes this year. I am often stopped (the blue hoodie gets me every time) and thanked for my honesty in the WAVE articles and asked “normal” questions regarding change and health.
During 2012, I have seen personal injury (surgery due soon L), change of business, business loss followed by expansion, stress of too much work (which is a good thing right?), stress of change (no one likes change), more deadlines, more studies and stress of work life/ balance. As a result I have exercised less, ate more, sulked more, drunk more, shouted more (not really – I’m a lover not a fighter!) So when I was considering content I decided to share my thoughts on daily living and the first thing we let go of is the most important element of our lives. FITNESS. I’m a few pounds heavier but my stresses have gone, I’m happier, I’ve returned to a better pattern and I know exactly where I am going, my weight will drop again and my work life balance restores itself. A girl on a mission.
The Chief Medical Officer said himself that “exercise is a WONDERDRUG” so why are so many of us finding it hard to fit it into our days?
I hear “I feel so unfit”, “I’m too fat to start anything”, “they will all be really good at it”, “I don’t know where to begin”, “too expensive” “not the right time”, “I don’t have the right things to wear”, the list of barriers for change is extensive BUT completely normal.
It is Human nature to feel afraid of the unknown and standing on the edge of change can be unsettling.
You may have been an exerciser or a dieter and have given up as it is too hard, or your shape hasn’t changed in a while, you’re putting on weight even though you are eating the same things. YOU HAVE HIT A PLATEAU.
YOUR body is clever, lazy by human nature and chooses the path of least resistance.
Exercise plateau - The first time you attend Combat class your body is surprised and works hard to engage new muscles. Over time the muscles adapt to the exercise and you stop seeing results. This applies to all forms of exercise.
Diet plateau – The first few weeks/months of changing your eating habits, you clean up your diet, reduce salts, processed foods, simple sugars and rebalance hormones then it all slows down. When you stop seeing results you have reached a plateau.
The good news is you CAN move forward and continue change
Sometimes we need to address what we need to sacrifice in order to make change. Where do you want to be? What do you want to look like? How do you want to feel? That’s how we often start the process of change.
So here is the rub…
BE MISERABLE OR MOTIVATE YOURSELF
WHATEVER HAS TO BE DONE IT IS YOUR CHOICE
HERE ARE MY TOP TIPS…
Set Goals – short term and this time next year
Sleep – 8 hours at least and be asleep by 10pm the body heals and repairs when calm and relaxed
Eat Clean – Kick the sugar, ditch the salt and the processed – it is cheaper to cook from scratch
MOVE – get moving, or change how you move just walk, run, workout in my gym, attend my classes, walk the dog or borrow someone elses.
Laugh - Life is tough enough, find a moment and laugh your socks off but please don’t ask me to tell jokes. I am definitely not funny!
De-Stress – acknowledge the things that make you stressed and dump it.
Relax – see sleep
Work life balance – live to work or work to live?
You have your health…..or will you?
The rest of your wonderful life starts right now, don’t wait until January 1st. This moment will never come again. As my wonderful Mum says “smell the roses”
New Gym Floor is opening in September
Helen and Tony Tite owners of The Core Fitness and Wellbeing Centre are proud to announce the launch of a brand new, state of the art PRECOR gym on the first floor of the Post Office Building on The Moor Falmouth.
“We see this as a natural expansion and the missing compliment to our group exercise studios and personal training centre. We recognize that a great work out is the sum of many parts and we are dedicated to providing maximum flexibility to our clients to assist them in developing a health, fitness and well-being programme that hits their individual goals. Look out for details of the strength, CV and free weights at www.thecore.uk.net.” said Helen.
In addition to the gym and studios The Core offers excellent personal training and bootcamp courses to supplement those who are looking to surge their exercise requirements, particular post London 2012 or those who need a kick-start on their journey.
The Core has now taken over two floors of The Old Post Office Building on The Moor and has given the interior a massive facelift. The entrance has moved to the left side of the building and reception is now on the first floor where the state-of-the-art gym is to be installed.
Helen and her team pride themselves on their quality service and high standards of fitness education but also base their philosophy on normalizing fitness through inclusion and variety to appeal to all elements of the community. As part of their support to #inspireageneration The Core encourages families to train together and include fitness as part of their normal routine.
The Core team is really looking forward to the next stage in their development with lots of exciting offers and events coming up to mark the launch of the gym and keep the positive fitness vibe from the Olympics alive in Cornwall. Ready for Rio?
What comes to mind when you hear the words Fitness! Exercise? Visions of lovely cellulite free beauties in lycra and muscle heads pumping iron perhaps? “That will never be me” I hear people say. I was once quoted “my darhling I don’t walk to the car!”
So which am I? Neither. I advocate great health and good living. I normalize fitness. I campaign to get the least active, active, equally the super fit fitter. I support, nurture, guide and coach clients into a positive lifestyle change.
Normalising fitness is about empowerment. Finding the activity, movement and drive that floats your boat. Never a chore. Always a pleasure, leaving clients feeling invigorated, inspired and well.
It is the small steps and small changes that lead to huge improvements in your health and changes to your lifestyle. Finding instructors, trainers and motivators to help you get on the right track without feeling awkward or intimidated. It certainly does not have to be in a gym and running.
In my experience my clients are motivated by goals, it might be to walk their daughter down the aisle or run Race For Life. Goals are personal. When you start to put goals in your life you begin to value your health and recognise that anything can be achieved and the world really does become your oyster.
I loved to hear that Our Chief Medical Officer quoted in his annual report “The potential benefits of physical activity to health are huge. If a medication existed which had a similar effect, it would be regarded as a ‘wonder drug’ or ‘miracle cure’. “
So if I was in charge of the world for the day, I would wave my magic wand and ensure activity and fitness to be a part of everyones lives, just like brushing teeth and eating.
I challenge you to become more active. Still unsure? Why not try a class? Laugh in Zumba, make friends Nordic Walking, discover Bootcamp or simply relax in Pilates at the very least.
So what’s your miracle cure going to be?
